Job Summary

The Electrician is responsible for performing a variety of diversified duties to assist in maintaining the plant and surrounding properties and oversee facility equipment according to safety, predictive, and productive processes. The electrician reports to the VP of Operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains a safe workplace program and ensures that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
  • Complies with all Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH), Waste Management, and Quality Assurance requirements, goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repair on all electrical items and facilities.
  • Routinely will run power to electrical sources where electrical is needed in accordance with procedures and manufacturers’ recommendations.
  • Experience working on VFDs (variable frequency drives).
  • Tests and repairs all safety circuits in generator and control units.
  • Properly record and complete maintenance reports and service records.
  • Inspects electrical power generation systems to ensure that no faults exist.
  • Monitors operation of all power generation electrical components to ensure proper operation.
  • Perform walkthroughs throughout the facility daily and document needs in the standard process.
  • Perform a wide variety of tasks such as preparing and cleaning the job site(s), loading, and delivering materials, and using a variety of tools, power tools, and equipment to ensure proper upkeep.
  • Complete any general maintenance such as cleaning, landscaping, etc.
  • Maintain the property to sufficient standards and pursue day-to-day projects and department requests of the Maintenance Manager.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of equipment and perform scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.
  • Detect faulty operations, and defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
  • Monitors loading; and operates power generation equipment in an efficient and economical manner.
  • Completes maintenance records and maintains operating logbooks as required; documents all maintenance performed.
  • Advises the Supervisor on the status of power production stock, equipment, and systems.
  • Maintains control of the Power Plant Electrician's tools and manuals.
  • Maintains inventory accuracy at 98% or better.
  • Trains Power Plant Operators and Mechanics on Power Plant operation and equipment as directed.
  • Ability to cover Plant Operator shifts/rounds as required.
  • Supports the achievement of metrics, whether metrics are directly or indirectly, affected by this position’s work activities.
  • Works to achieve goals and contractual commitments.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs electrical problems.
  • Willingness to work a rotating shift: day, swing, or night shift.
  • Responds to power outages and equipment failures as required.
  • Evaluate job hazards and communicate information to staff verbally and in writing through various venues, including weekly and/or daily meetings.
  • Interprets project tasking utilizing design drawings, specifications, and diagrams.
  • Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing, with their superiors and peers as needed to relay information they need in order to be successful in their jobs.
  • May be required to work outside on various job sites in extreme hot/cold weather and environmentally challenging conditions.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma/GED or an equivalent number of years of education and maintenance experience.
  • 4+ years of experience; strong general labor, and maintenance, in the industrial setting.
  • Must be a current Licensed Journeyman Electrician.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to handle multiple tasks at once is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, hazards, and safety precautions related to diesel engines and diesel engine-driven electric generators is required.
  • The ability to maintain a professional attitude and to work efficiently in a stressful environment is required.
  • Working comprehension of electrical distribution, control panels, and medium voltage switchgear.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
